Beats pickin’ cotton and waiting to be forgotten

il_570xN.556189503_e9lx

When I used to make the trek from Memphis to my parents’ house fairly often, I’d always pass by these long stretches of field along Highway 64, many of them cotton fields. One October afternoon, the sky was so open and bright and the cotton was blooming. I stopped at one of the fields and braved the weeds and chiggers in my flip-flops to get some photos.

I don’t think we slow down to capture and appreciate the moment often enough. It’s cliche. And, really, it’s a luxury to be able to take that kind of time to observe life in motion. Still, I think we need to try harder.
